My son loves these older format decks. They are really fun for him and offer a change of pace from regular competitive decks of the current format. I haven’t had any complaints about the quality of the cards, and the Worlds information booklet was really interesting to read, too. He is asking for more of these older decks and they are becoming quite popular among the competitive crowd. Lots of people play these decks in between rounds at tournaments.

Even though the cards in this deck for the most part have been rotated it doesn’t take away from this decks level of fun and ability to even still give some current decks a run for there money. If you enjoy testing out cards from previous formats against other cards of that era or any other era then this product is for you.

Oh how naiive I was. This looked like the best deal in pokemon starting out. It had every single trainer I needed to build up my toolbox, and the deck itself wasn’t too shabby either. Then i got it, and I realized that the card backings were different than normal cards, which means you can’t use them at tournaments, and thus every single card is worthless. This whole pack is a giant scam and a waste of money, You would be better off going somewhere else and just buying the legal cards individually and actually having a working deck than using this garbage. I feel betrayed by nintendo. I don’t even know why this deck exist. They duped me into buying, but i hope they won’t dupe you.

The thing Adam doesn’t understand is the devaluing of the Pokemon Trading Card Game cards itself. Because these are champion winning decks, with individual cards sometimes being worth over $25 on their own, I’m not sure why Adam believes they’ll sell you a deck of them for $13 which is less the price of 5 booster packs. Maybe Adam was naive enough to think he could just buy a Championship deck and use them in a tournament or re-sell the cards. Whatever it is, it was foolish and don’t let his review dissuade you from this purchase.
Moving on though, these types of decks are best for the casual player. You get the comfort of buying a good deck thats “ready to go” without having to worry about deck equity or needing to buy better cards from boosters in order to enhance your deck. A friend and I can buy two decks and know we are on relatively even footing without too much filler.
The last Championship deck I bought from 2010 had 9 “Star” Rare cards and only 6 Energy cards in the entire deck. It was a masterful deck that relied on advanced tactics and being able to use card searches, trainer cards, and pokemon powers in order to cycle through the deck for quick knock-outs for a victory. The average “starter” deck available for $15 is usually half energy and has maybe 2 rare cards at most.
We had a great time with the deck, had a few hours of fun, and all for the cost of a movie. At the end of the day, we not only didn’t have to buy boxes of cards in order to create a great deck but we also had saved a lot of room in not having all those extra cards lying around in boxes and taking up room.
If you’re a kid at heart who wants to spend under $20 to play a fun round of Pokemon cards with your friend, or if you have a child that wants to play but you don’t have all the cash in the world to support the expensive habit.. the Pokemon Championship Decks are your best bet. The cards have no resell value (so you don’t have to worry about needing to keep cards in pristine order due to rarity) and provide you one of the four world championship decks.
